Bels Art World

Some wonderful characters called ginger fox, Mr. Billy and his ice cream, friendly bear, a blue mushroom, poodle dog and a ginger cat have all joined us here at Nook & Cranny. Bel from Bels Art World has hand painted these beautiful brooches. Being hand painted, each has it's own unique quality, from seeing the brush strokes, an extra whisker or larger smile, each in it's own right will be a one-off. The intricate detail in each brooch, the unique character and quality of each work of art make these brooches an absolute steal from £5 to £7.50.

Sandra Dieckmann

We knew we were onto a winner when we found Sandra Dieckmanns work, but her C.V has blown me away! A winner of an 'emerging talent' award, prints and publications through Wolf Magazine, Illustrators Unlimited, Doodlers Anonymous and exhibitions in LA, Munich, Moscow and London.
We are now so pleased to be on the long list of stockists and fans alike for Sandra, filling Nook & Cranny shelves with tote bags, pocket mirrors and a variety of sizes of prints.
We're quite sure you guys will be just as impressed with her beautiful illustrations as we are.

"Why I hacked a knitting machine"

I've found a brilliant article about a guy who connected an electric knitting machine to a computer in order to make it knit in the same fashion as a printer does. Starting out with printing his own face onto a balaclava, Andrew Salomone has gone on to exhibit and share his knitted works of art in galleries and craft events alike.

Keeping the knitting topics on the lighter side of life, Salomone knitted an image of Crosby wearing one of his famous jumpers, wearing a picture of him wearing a jumper of him wearing a jumper etc. He also knitted an exact replica jumper of the late Amy Winehouse's tattoos in the dream that she only walked around half dressed so often as she wanted to show off her tatts. This jumper could have answered such a problem.

Men and their crafty ways often add a great element of humour when they attack traditionally feminine past times and Andrew Salomone doesn't disappoint. Read the full article and interview with the man himself on the Guardian newspaper website here.

Bad Nana has some stiff competition for next winter.

El Famoso

Rich Fairhead has ganged together with his brother Chris to create El Famoso, a grand collection of hand drawn and hand screen printed posters with a perfect turn of humour. Having worked with Saatchi & Saatchi, Nike, Coke and Casio, we're pretty privileged to get him onboard! Rich is making the run up North to visit Nook & Cranny and hand deliver this great collection of prints. Check out his blog too - the vodka and gin inspired prints are right up our street aswell. Inspired by his home town London, old pubs, Johnny Cash, unicorns and robots, we think El Famoso will fit in just fine.

Coming soon

Sally Faulkner, Laura Griffin Draws, Woodland Ink, Sandra Dieckmann, Hayley Wright, Archive Print and BeciMay.

New artists coming very soon - how exciting!

Hello new year, hello new display!

Our wonderful artists and stockists are always bringing new goodies to our attention and now that we have a bundle of new artists to celebrate, we thought it was about time we expanded the card display! John got busy with the saw and, only getting his thumb once, made the biggest card display this side of Clinton Cards - and we need more room! The zines have their own shelf, the tote bags are displayed in their own right and the print display scatter wall is filling up. The walls have gone putty grey and our hands have turned blue from the cold, but we're happy! Everyone who pops by has wonderful compliments - come and see for your self!
